Thanks, everyone!

After a few years of inconsistent updating, I think it's finally time for me to say goodbye to Sheki Music. This makes me sad, but it isn't fair to keep you all waiting and clutter up your friends list with an inactive journal. For the past year I've began to prioritize my life differently, and I can't see this journal being updated again. I want to thank everyone for your years of support for this journal; it's you guys that kept me going as long as I did and I'm really happy I was able to share some great music with you!

I'm happy to announce that one of the things keeping me busy is that I've finally accomplished one of my dreams, which was going to Japan. I've been in Aichi prefecture since September 2010 and will be here until the end of July. Japan is a gorgeous country, and if you've ever thought about coming here through study abroad (and are lucky enough to still be a student) I wholeheartedly recommend it, because it's one of the easiest ways to get here. If you want to learn the language and learn about Japanese culture, you will not regret it.

So, where are the artists now who were included in the very first update?

Ichikawa Yui

Yui remains my #1 idol today. Despite ending her singing career years ago after four singles and one mini-album, she has continued as an actress, with her biggest claim to fame being Komatsu Nana in the NANA2 movie alongside Nakashima Mika. Starting next week she'll be in her first starring drama, Muscle Girl, alongside Lee Hong Ki.

Otsuka Ai

Otsuka Ai has gone on to become a household name in Japan after her second single, "Sakuranbo," became a hit at karaoke. Nearly all of her releases have ranked in the top #5 of the Oricon, but currently she's taking some time off to focus on her first child, born last month. If you've ever seen this cute character, appropriately named Love, you have Ai to thank for that as well. (I won one out of a UFO catcher within two tries, I was so happy :D)

Matsuhashi Miki

Matsuhashi Miki is a singer-songwriter formerly with GIZA studios. "destiny," her second single, remains her biggest success thanks to its tie-in with the Meitantei Conan anime. She has been on hiatus since 2003 (which seems to happen to most artists associated with GIZA).

Pipo Angel's

Pipo Angel's was a short-lived idol group made up of four models from the junior high fashion magazine Pichi Lemon, in collaboration with the brand Angel Blue. They released two singles and had a collaboration with Japan McDonald's, and after this most of the members went off on their own adventures until 2007 when the group went through a bit of a reboot and added three new members before officially calling it quits at the end of the year.

ROAD OF MAJOR was one of Japan's more popular indie bands in the first half of the decade, with the majority of their releases making it into the top #20 in the Oricon, and "Taisetsu na Mono" being their greatest hit. After 10 singles and 2 original albums the band members decided to go their separate ways in 2007.

Shinohara Tomoe
(Unfortunately, I couldn't find "Loop People" on Youtube. =( )
Shinohara Tomoe has been a staple of Japanese television since the mid-1990s due to her wacky and over-the-top personality. Her music career reflected this. Although no longer a singer, she is still very much in the talent business in Japan and has her own Youtube channel.

This will be my last post here - I will not be deleting the journal, however. If you'd like to follow my personal exploits, my journal is wapiko, but don't be offended if I do not add you back. Again, thank you to everyone, and keep listening to awesome music :D
